Rocking Around: Classifying Rocks
Rocks are all around us! But did you know there are different types? First, we have igneous rocks. These are formed when molten lava cools down. They can be found near volcanoes and can have crystals! Next are sedimentary rocks. These form over millions of years as small bits of earth and sand get pressed together. You can often find fossils in sedimentary rocks! Finally, we have metamorphic rocks. These are rocks that have changed due to heat and pressure. Imagine squishing a piece of bread into a ball - that's like a metamorphic rock! Can you find examples of these rocks in your backyard? Happy rock hunting!
