The Big Rulebook of the United States
In 1787, a group of friends, we call them the Founding Fathers, gathered to write a rulebook for their club. This wasn't an ordinary club, but a whole nation, the United States. Their rulebook, the US Constitution, has guided the country since then. The rulebook starts with a 'Preamble' that sets the goal for their club. They wanted to ensure justice, tranquility and liberty for all the members of their club. The rulebook also describes the three leaders: the President, the Congress, and the Courts, and tells them how to make and enforce rules. Over time, the founders realized they left out some rules, so they added them as 'Amendments.' The first ten amendments were so important, they got a special name, the 'Bill of Rights.' Did you know the rulebook was written on four large sheets of parchment, made from animal skin?
