ReadTheory’s Teacher of the Year Awards are Here

As a ReadTheory Certified Educator, Katie engages her students in unique ways with ReadTheory. She makes “SWAG TAGS” for students when they reach a new level. She also purchased a small trophy for the student with the most knowledge points to put on their desk all week. She prioritizes talking to students about their data and shows them where they are.

Pamela was a ReadTheory Presenter in August 2023 with her webinar entitled "How to Establish Reading Routines that Create Impact using ReadTheory." She encourages her students to go the extra mile with ReadTheory by having them rate passages and share their favorite ones. She has students complete summaries of passages, explaining the main idea to show their understanding.

Jennifer recognizes students' progress on ReadTheory with shoutouts weekly that they can either take home to show their parent/guardian or hang on the "Shoutout Wall" in class. She tracks data weekly and provides parents with a progress report every four weeks. As a special treat this year, she held a "Pancakes for Points" contest and surprised the students by cooking pancakes in class.

Jill's 92 sixth graders earned the number one scores in the state in Reading on the Georgia Milestones last year, largely thanks to ReadTheory. She has trained her students to read every word in ReadTheory's answer evaluation feedback box. They are required to complete detailed error analysis statements, explaining what they will change the next time they read and answer questions.

Bonnie, an enthusiastic ReadTheory Certified Educator, has been an “unofficial ambassador” of ReadTheory by demonstrating to her reading coach that Read Theory works when used in a consistent, weekly manner along with systematic, direct reading instruction. Now, all middle schools in her district are using the program to make significant gains in reading comprehension.

Amy is a ReadTheory Certified Educator who's creativity in implementing ReadTheory is unmatched. Whether it be her Knowledge Points Bulletin Board or innovative March Madness Bracket Challenge, she is always implementing something new and engaging. Through her efforts, she has cultivated a sense of community, reached students who were previously disengaged, and improved reading comprehension for all.

Robert's classes averaged an 81% improvement in their STAR Reading Benchmark test scores from Fall 2023 - Winter 2023 as a result of his fidelity to Read Theory. He began the Reading Olympics program at his school which rewarded all of the students for their individual progress at a special assembly. This assembly was an amazing success and was largely attended by parents.

Kristina has been the highest-performing English 2 teacher in our county for two years and says ReadTheory is the reason. She is a ReadTheory Certified Educator and teaches for an early college program and her students have been accepted to a wide variety of universities after using ReadTheory. She says she can build students' confidence with ReadTheory, helping her whole community.

Omar suggested to his principal that his school use ReadTheory three days a week for 30 minutes during their advisory period, and students' reading levels and speed have improved greatly. He also uses it to differentiate instruction in English 2 Pre-AP classes for special education, gifted and talented, English language learners, and more, to challenge them at their individual reading levels.

William uses Read Theory to improve the reading comprehension skills of his students by assigning a lesson every day and engaging the students in the stories. He teaches multiple subjects and works with the students and families to make sure all the kids know they are important and loved. He strives to track their growth and help them reach reading milestones regardless of their level.

Laura's students have made over a year and a half of growth, on average, by making ReadTheory a part of her daily classroom routine. She uses a chart to track progress on ReadTheory levels and celebrates increasing scores. Students are motivated to see their progress and have started tracking their own scores to measure progress. She became a ReadTheory Certified Educator this year.

In her classroom, Thomasina's goal is to teach independence and stamina. Using ReadTheory, she is able to individualize reading comprehension to each student's level. She consistently assists students in answering questions, tracking responses, and referring back to the text for support. She is proud that her students are standing up and taking responsibility for their own learning.

Howon uses ReadTheory as one of the stations in her newcomer ESL class. Students check their growth at the end of each month, and she rewards whoever earns the most knowledge points. Everyone gets celebrated for their growth, no matter their level. She says ReadTheory prepares students for high-stakes tests such as WIDA and TNReady in a way that matches everyone's level.

Markku, Finland's Language Teacher of the Year, uses ReadTheory to prepare his students for the National Finals in English, which is a rigorous exam. Regardless of class size, his students work on texts suited to their needs. He appreciates that ReadTheory enables personal progress by offering the right amount of challenge to the student and adjusting the level of the tasks to their ability.

In the UAE, where English is not the first language of most students, ReadTheory has made a huge impact on Sangeeta's students by providing adaptive and effective passages according to each student's specific level. Her class average went from a Lexile Level of 320 to 730 within one term. She holds a school-wide competition where maximum progress on ReadTheory is awarded.

Christie uses ReadTheory as an extension activity for early finishers and as an intervention for those struggling. She refuses to let struggling students fall through the cracks, even with a large class size of 28. She believes that It is not a matter of if a student can read, but rather when. She uses ReadTheory to reach every student exactly where they are at and to propel them forward.

Adeeba, an enthusiastic ReadTheory Certified Educator in the UAE, uses ReadTheory daily to cultivate a love of reading in her classroom. She has a knack for improving students' reading levels across the spectrum by using ReadTheory. She even published a paper that was released in a book by the local educational body that describes her educational successes with ReadTheory.

Judy, a passionate advocate of ReadTheory, has found that ReadTheory was the literacy tool best suited to the wide range of diverse cultures and ability levels at her school. She uses it with her Year 10s as they must take an extensive exam to obtain NCEA literacy. She instills confidence in her students through ReadTheory, which increases comprehension skills for all subject areas.
