At ReadTheory, we’ve always believed that every student deserves a fair shot at becoming a stronger, more confident reader, no matter their background, resources, or learning needs. That’s why we’re thrilled to announce our newest feature, Read Aloud.

Yes, you read that right and now you can hear it too. 😉

Students can now highlight a word, sentence, or passage and hear it instantly, boosting fluency and understanding.

Teachers told us that a Read Aloud option would make a huge difference for their students. From English learners working hard to master a new language to students in special education settings who benefit from hearing text read aloud, this feature is about equity in action.

Is ReadTheory’s Read Aloud feature really free?

By making the first version of Read Aloud available for free, we’re putting our mission into practice, making sure every student has access to the tools they need to succeed. This isn’t a premium-only feature or hidden behind a paywall because we believe accessibility isn’t optional, it’s essential.

How It Works

It couldn’t be easier!

  1. Teachers toggle this feature on in their Class Settings
  2. Students open a ReadTheory quiz and highlight the word, sentence, or passage they want to hear
  3. They click the speaker icon next to the text
  4. The highlighted text is read aloud while they follow along

That’s it. No extra clicks. No add-ons. Just accessibility built right in.

What’s Next

We’re rolling out Read Aloud in phases

  • Pilot Release: A small group of teachers already has access, and their feedback is helping us fine-tune before the full rollout
  • Full Release: Soon, every teacher will see the Read Aloud feature in their classrooms

When you spot the little speaker icon, give it a try and let us know how it works for your students.

Thank You, Teachers

We couldn’t have done this without you. Your feedback, your persistence, your deep care for students, it all drives ReadTheory forward.

So here’s to more voices being heard (sorry, we can’t help ourselves) , more students being supported, and more classrooms where every learner belongs.

Stay tuned, this is just the beginning.
