Celebrating Black History Month
Every February, we celebrate a very special month called Black History Month. This is a time when we remember and appreciate the contributions that African-Americans have made to the United States. The idea of Black History Month came from a man named Carter G. Woodson. He believed that people should know about the bravery and achievements of African-Americans. Important people like Martin Luther King Jr., who fought for equal rights, Rosa Parks, who stood against injustice, and Harriet Tubman, who led many to freedom, are celebrated during this month. They and many others have helped shape the country as we know it today.
