Every last Monday in May, we observe a special holiday in the United States called Memorial Day. This day is set aside to remember and honor all the brave men and women who have died while serving in our country s military. Memorial Day started after the Civil War and was first known as Decoration Day. Today, we celebrate by attending parades, visiting cemeteries, and hanging American flags. It is a day of gratitude and respect, a time for us to remember and appreciate the sacrifices made by others for our freedom.
